How To Choose The Best Distance Learning CollegesOne of the most raging debates, that has gone on for time immemorial is, whether education is more important, or whether it is just a step on the ladder that leads to the financial success of a person. And while some people participate in this debate willingly, there are others who become a part of this debate without even wanting to do so. And I, in my career as a teacher and as a lecturer at one of the leading universities have witnessed my fair share of such examples. For instance there was this student, whom I knew from his school days. After completing his high school education he was in two minds regarding whether he should opt for higher education or not. While he himself wanted to study, high fees and constraints of funds prevented him from doing so. He then got a job. Now he has the money, but does not have the time to continue his education. For him and others who are in a similar situation, distance learning universities and colleges are like manna from heaven. These courses provide the gilded opportunity to these students of completing their education while doing their jobs. And there are certain colleges which specialize in providing this type of education. These colleges are known as distance learning colleges. The specialty of these colleges lie in the fact that here it is not required of the students to attend regular classes. In fact, as the name suggests, the students need not even live in the vicinity of the college. A student from the state of Tennessee can study in distance learning college, which is physically located in New York. Those who are working can complete their education by the means of these colleges because there are no fixed classes and timings. They can interact with their teachers or professors and even their 'course mates' on the Internet. Interaction can be carried out via means of the more traditional snail mail and even via video or audio conferencing through television and radio respectively. One great advantage is that you can study from the convenience of your home at any time that suits you best. Exams too can be given via the Internet. These distance ediucation colleges also come to the aid of students who want to pursue a particular course which is not offered in the vicinity of their homes. They can then study through one of the distance learning colleges that offer the course of their choice. But one factor that you should always keep in mind is that 'all that glitters is not gold'. There are many distance learning courses which are fly by night affairs and which fleece the students. They are also known as "Diploma Mills". You should always take care that the course and the distance learning college you are enrolling for is accredited or approved by the United States Council for Higher Education. After being convinced about the existence and viability of any distance learning college, get enrolled into one and fulfill your long, but unfinished dream of education. Happy learning! |
